Typography

My next project was all based on typography, we weren't using the computer to create type and instead we were told to produce it by hand on a big layout pad. I was able to experiment with different typefaces, cases, bold, italics, layouts, everything really. Throughout the process i begun to like certain typefaces a lot more than others and i ended up choosing the typeface 'Caslon 540 bt' in italics. This typeface was very elegant, smart and i really enjoyed using it. I tested out a lot of different layouts and certain ones stuck out for me. It all ended up in one final piece.

This 'S' above is not yet finished but will be done in the next few days. The 'I' below though is finished. The large letters are made up of all lots of the same lyrics that i had put together.

Lists Lists Lists

So our next project was all about lists. We were given several lists that we could pick and develop. My two favourite lists were '10 ways to procrastinate' and '10 annoying things'.
We could present our ideas how ever we wanted, all it had to be was one final image and how to communicate the message of course. I initially started brainstorming with the ideas of procrastinating. It soon narrowed down to the idea that people waste a lot of time on the internet. So i decided to find all the logos of the internet sites that people use the most.
Below are lots of logos, most of which i ended up using.

So next i had to find a way of putting these logos on to something. I had ideas of a game of twister where you step on the logos to do it, a pinball graphic for a pinball game, a maze leading to the procrastinations. The list went on. I nearly ended up going with a roulette wheel of procrastination but it was to hard to actually make as the wheel that i found was way to small.
So i finally decided on the idea of a slot machine of procrastination. I found the game that my brother had and put graphics i made to stick over the originals. Completely changing the game. There were 16 ways of procrastinating on each wheel.

As you can see from the above pictures, my whole project was completely interactive which i thought was a great success. I really enjoyed making the stickers and putting it all together.

Continuing on from 30 things to do

I ended up continuing on from my 30 things to do project. I had to choose what i thought was my most successful pieces to develop, in my eyes this was the chair brief and the measure everything you see brief. I ended up only developing one and this was the chair brief. Using the same continuous line technique, i drew my journey to college in one line. Highlighting only the main points on my journey.

30 things to do in VIS COM

I have been neglecting my blog a bit recently but i will catch up, I promise. So i ended up specialising in Visual Communication and the first project we were set was a '30 things to do' project. Where we literally had 30 things to do in about a week. Here are a couple of my little projects below
Above I created an image for one of the briefs called
'Carrots make your hair curl'

This image i created above from scratch, replying to the brief
'180 degrees'

I created a pointless signpost for one of the briefs which was
'Go into the public space and leave a message'
I created a very simple answer to the brief
'Public / Private'

When I saw this brief,
'Record something you see that shouldn't be'
I was a bit confused but i ended up taking a photograph with a weird lens in front of my camera to portray to effect of when you wake up and look at the light, your vision turns all blurry.

I had to scan in the above image i created (thats why its very bad quality), as it was a print out i edited by hand. The above image was a response to
'Measure things lots of things'
I measured lots of objects which i had found on my desk, then enlarged them, printed them out and stuck them in the London city skyline.

Above is actually one continuous line drawing but i had to scan it in, in 5 separate pieces.
The brief for this was to 'draw every chair you sat on that day' so i decided to draw every chair i sat on in order and having a continuous flow for the chairs.
